The Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics, and Intercultural Communication (MLLI, https://mlli.umbc.edu) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Spanish, beginning August 2024.

Our new colleague would join us in advancing the MLLI department’s fruitful research in intercultural communication from the perspectives of cultural studies, language acquisition and pedagogy, and linguistics.

The annual teaching load is five courses. These courses might include our current two-course series of Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition, and the major capstone (Studies in Spanish Language). Their teaching portfolio may also include a cross-listed graduate course on Methods of Teaching Modern Foreign Language in K-12 schools, original community engaged learning experiences, and the creation of a new 200-level heritage Spanish course.

Requisitos

We seek candidates holding a Ph.D. in Spanish or related fields by the start date with teaching and research experience in heritage language study and instruction. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD at the time of application. We are eager to read about the candidate’s focused research agenda and high quality undergraduate and any graduate teaching experience in both Spanish and English.

Experience coordinating a language program is a plus. A demonstrated commitment consistent with UMBC’s initiatives on equity, diversity, and inclusive excellence is essential.
